I joined Quills to Connect because I value building emotional connections between people, especially with the senior community — a group that is often overlooked and experiences much loneliness. I also enjoy writing cute little letters, so this club combined two of my interests in such a fun way!!!! Plus, the people involved are so sweet, so it’s a great place to meet new people! When I have free time, I love trying new foods, thrifting, and going to concerts! In the future, I hope to be a physician. JOIN QUILLS!!!!!!!

Hello everyone!! Nice to meet you :D My name is Shiley, and I am a second year Neuroscience major. I joined Quills to Connect to bridge the generational gap between the elderly and the youth through the beautiful past time of writing cute letters! My favorite part about Quills is getting to interact with our seniors. Hearing all of their amazing stories and funny (sometimes surprising!!) comments always brightens my day! In my free time, I like listening to exclusively Taylor Swift, making art, reading, and going to the beach! JOIN QUILLS FOR FUN TIMES AND CUTE STATIONARY <3

Kelly LinDirector of Outreach
Hey everyone, this is Kelly and I am a fourth year physiological sciences major. I joined Quills because I wanted to make friends in a population that I otherwise would usually not interact with. Right now, it is in the people in Quills that are my fave part. I like to hike and do anything active in my free time! In the future, I hope to be in the healthcare field, and be happy with what I am doing. Fun fact: I have a piece of Hawaii in my foot!

Hi everyone, this is Masa :D. I joined Quills to Connect so that I can make more genuine connections to a community I generally don't have much contact with. I really enjoy talking with them as they bring many different perspectives and stories that are built on years of experience. On my free time, I like being active and spending time with my friends.

I'm a third year physiological sciences major, and I joined Quills to Connect to learn more and connect with the geriatric population in L.A. I've also always had a love for stationary and art, so being involved with that has been so much fun! I love everyone in Quills and encourage anyone interested to join. :)

I work as a CNA at an assisted living facility so I love being able to interact with senior citizens. Quills to Connect was another way for me to keep in touch with some of them! Random fact about me: I want to name my first dog Murphy.

Joining Quills to Connect was an easy decision for me, as the club’s mission directly aligns with my own values of providing compassionate care for our elderly communities—especially through the exciting outlet of pen-pal writing. Although I only joined nearing the end of fall quarter 2022, I’ve not only enjoyed meeting new people from all over campus, but also continue to appreciate learning about the financial allocation process as part of board. Outside of Quills, I thoroughly enjoy making new crochet clothing items (whether it be tote bags, hats, or sweaters), baking, and finding new thrift shops across Los Angeles!

I am a second year physci major with an aspiration to become a nurse in the future. I enjoy doing a majority of indoor activities during my free time such as reading, binge watching shows and movies, crocheting, and sleeping. When I’m home, I like to take scenic drives and play with my two dogs. I really love how Quills to Connect works to form a bond between two very different generations as I find it important to foster communication between others and learn new perspectives!
