About Us
Quills to Connect is a student-run pen-pal program at UCLA seeking to build meaningful connections between the youth and seniors through letter writing.
The program began during the COVID-19 pandemic in order to mitigate effects of social isolation. At the onset of the pandemic, senior citizens were one of the most physically vulnerable and socially isolated groups in our community. This inspired us to try to come up with a way that we can foster social communication within our community.
Today, we continue with this sentiment of bringing people together to improve mental health by combating loneliness. Our program partners with senior homes in the Los Angeles community to create a pen-pal system that matches a senior with a college student volunteer who shares similar interests.
